If you want any sort of a chance to catch a pike, then you will need a bit of info about Pike Fishing Lures.

Pike lures come in many different varieties designed to appeal to the different lifecycles and habitats of the pike.

The best, and most enjoyable way to find the right lure is experimentation. Get out there and do some fishing, try different lures at different times of the day and year, different weather cycles, different parts of the water body and water temperature.

There are 3 main types of Pike lure: Spoons, Crankbaits and Spinners, lets take a look at these individually.

Spoons

Named because of their shape, spoon lures closely resemble the piece of cutlery that you use to shove cereal into your mouth before heading off to work every morning.

Spoons wiggle and vibrate in the water, giving off the impression of a dying minnow. Pikes love catching dying minnow as much as you like catching live healthy pike.

Crankbaits

Crankbaits are lures designed to look like the natural prey of pike. Usually made from plastic or wood, they are cast out and dragged through the water. They generally have a protruding lip or bill which is angled downwards. The purpose of this bill is to drive the bait deeper down into the water. The bigger and longer the bill, the deeper it will dive.

How do you fish with a crankbait? Simple. Cast it out and crank it back in. Catch Fish. Repeat.

Spinners

Spinners are a very popular lure for catching pike, and the pike like them too. They are very bright and the spinning action gives off alot of vibrations that really attract the aggressive pike.

Fishing with a spinner is much the same as a crankbait. Cast it out and reel it back in. Try different speeds to see what the fish are going for.

Other lures for pike fishing include Swimbait and Pike flies. Swimbait very closely resembles live fish. Much more so than Crankbait. These lures are designed to look and move like real live fish. Just do a search for swimbait on YouTube to see what I mean.

Much less common is fly fishing for pike. I will leave this for another article as there is alot for me to tell you.
