Salmon fishing covers much ground. There are many different species and live on both U.S. coasts and in freshwater rivers and lakes.
Although their habits are similar fishing methods will be different depending on the season and what kind of water in'll start by establishing exactly what a salmon.
Salmon is the common name for several species of the family Salmonidae, which also includes trout and coal. Most salmon species are anadromous, meaning they live in the ocean, migrating upstream to spawn. There are some species that have been established in full freshwater lakes-time, and are known as 'landlocked' salmon. The main species are:
Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) are native the northeast coast of the USA and the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Systems. The subspecies of coastline called the Sebago salmon, and stored with marginal success in Michigan. This is the only East Coast salmon species in the U.S.. Atlantic salmon survive their spawning runs in rivers and can generate 3 to 4 times in his life.
Pacific Salmon are Onchorynchus family members.
On Chinook or King Salmon (Onchorynchus tshawytscha) is the largest member of the family on the West Coast salmon, ranging from northern California north to the McKenzie River in Canada. 30 – Pounders are not uncommon.
Chum or Dog Salmon (keta Onchorynchus) have the widest range of all Pacific salmon species from the coast, from the Sacramento River in California, north of the McKenzie River in British Columbia.
Coho or Silver Salmon (kisutchi Onchorynchus) are only found along the British Columbia and Alaska coasts, and rivers.
Rosa, or Humpy Salmon (Onchorynchus gorbuscha) are from northern mid Caliifornia McKenzie River, in BC. They are the smallest, but most numerous species of Pacific salmon.
Sockeye or red salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka Onchorynchus) are the most striking in appearance, during spawning. Males turn bright red intense. They extend from the Klamath River in northern California, north of Bathurst Inlet in the Arctic Canadian.
Kokanee are a landlocked subspecies of sockeye salmon.
Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus Onchorynchus) are not salmon, trout rainbow, but rather migrate to sea and back into rivers to spawn.
And a quick word about fish farming. If you catch a salmon, it would take a DNA test to determine whether there was a hatchery or wild fish. While there is a temporary problem with head lice in farmed fish, is only temporary and will be addressed.
This is a new industry with few problems, but it will eventually save the salmon, the fishing industry and ensure a large supply fish for all. And released when the "fish farm", they become part of the "population of wild fish.
Cultivation fish will do for the fishing industry which has made cattle for beef, pork and poultry industries. It's really the wave of the future, and will go a long way toward the elimination of world hunger.
